So I'm working at my school's Canaday library this summer and I really love my job since I'm surrounded by lots of kickass people and books. I like books.
You know what else I like?
Air conditioning.
I am very grateful for air conditioning.
Anyway.
It's been two weeks since I've done laundry. Needless to say, my sheets are starting to get pretty gross due to this horrendous heat wave and I'm starting to run out of underwear that's not from Hanky Panky and/or are lace.
Essentially, I really really need to do laundry. However, I don't have any quarters. Today I went to one of the change machines at Canaday and deposited a $5 bill.
Words of wisdom: Sometimes, change machines run out of quarters.
When they run out of quarters, they give you dimes.
I now have 50 dimes and no quarters and I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do with them because no, really, 50 dimes. What am I going to do with them? (The washer and dryer only accepts quarters.)
Also: at my school library we have several levels; the lowest one being B floor. It's the one that most people dislike because it is fucking terrifying (so terrifying that a Bryn Mawr student made a horror movie and used it as the setting).
Hardly anyone ventures down there; the stacks are filled with huge oversized folios, journals, music books, and has movable shelves that exist only to mock me and make me miserable ("Oh my god, are you kidding me? THE AISLE IS CLEAR. THERE IS NO OBSTRUCTION. WHY ARE YOU NOT MOVING. MOVE, YOU. I'VE PRESSED THE RESET BUTTON FIVE TIMES, WHY ARE YOU STILL NOT MOVING. MOVE. ...I am talking to an inanimate shelf. Thank goodness no one else is here.")
Basically, B Floor is underground with no windows and is no one's favorite place-- it's eerily silent except for sound of the pipes.
So naturally, I was in the B Floor stacks when we had out power outage in Canaday today. The only floor that does not have emergency lights and/or windows.
It was pitch black.
The elevator was out, so I pretty much grabbed my iPod Touch (thank you Flashlight app! I LOVE YOU) and sprinted up two flights of stairs onto the main level and asked for hugs from friends from the Help Desk and Circulation.
A few minutes prior to the blackout, I was humming along to 3OH!3 and thinking, "Huh, B Floor isn't all that bad. I think I've gotten used to it."
Famous last words.
At least I felt like a character from a Scooby Doo episode for about 30 seconds.
