Yesterday my biu-yi (aunt) kidnapped me and took me to Macau!
It was a lot of fun - we walked a ton (because I didn't tell my aunt about my ankle and I make stupid, stupid life choices), had a delicious meal, I gambled for the first time, and I got very excited about the Portuguese-inspired architecture around the city. (I read too much about the Macau's architecture for my Cities class last semester. Gary would be so proud.)
I'm too lazy to get the photos off my digital camera right now, but I took some pictures at the Museum of Macau but the battery died soon afterwards. We also went to the Macau Maritime Museum where my aunt was very kind and did not tell me to shut up because I knew too much about Zheng He from all my Chinese history courses. I think you see a pattern here.
I'm very fond of the stamps I'm collecting on my passport. I hope to collect more by the time my four months in Hong Kong are over! There are so many places I want to visit: Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore, Kuala Lumpar...
Today I met up with Sue Yee after a lot of 'holy shit, where are you? I'm here... oh, you're there? Um...let me ask someone for directions to where you are' mishaps at the Central MTR station.
We ended up at HKU and I got to show her around the campus a little (what I know of it, anyway) and we pretty much established two things:
1. HKU's campus is insane.
2. We should never ask directions from a tourist, no matter how knowledgeable she may appear with her fancy schmancy GPS/Crackberry gadget.
We were walking in the right direction, thought we were going the wrong way after asking for directions, and then walked in the complete opposite of where we were supposed to go for a good half hour.
At least I can cross 'getting lost in Hong Kong with a friend' off my bucket list. (The biggest issue was having a friend to get lost in Hong Kong with. I'm paranoid/convinced that I won't make any friends during my time here.)
One good thing came of getting lost - Sue Yee and I stopped by Mannings and I got new shampoo and conditioner and the formula actually seems to work with my hair.
My hair is insanely particular (so much that I have to buy expensive salon shampoo and conditioner) so I'm relieved that a drugstore brand is doing wonders. The fact that my hair now smells like lychee candy is a nice bonus.
